Denali How We Love Thee

We went to Denali National Park on Thursday.  We had an amazing tour of the park from Mike - the award winning tour guide.  Okay, he hasn't won any awards, but he should! The tour consisted of us and two Chinese college students who are studying at SUNY Albany.  For those who don't know why I mention this,  I grew up in Albany and my dad was the Chairman of the Physic Department at SUNY for many years.  What are the odds!

The Denali National Park is 6 million acres of extraordinary beauty.

Look closely - (no nothing will pop out at you)
You will see Mt McKinley through the haze.

On our tour we were also joined by one of the scientist working at the park and he educated us all about the wolves, caribou and other animals that roam the 6 million acres.
Here is  the rare Zacibou.  We had to stay very still as to not frighten him.

Look we saw a wild Betsybou...
No Zac is not trying to get struck by lightening or signal a UFO...
Many of the of the animals are tracked by the scientist in the park.  Zac was holding the antenna, so we could see if there were any collared wolves in the area.  We did hear a faint beep, but then it disappeared.  The wolves must have gotten a look at Zac's hat and ran for it.

We may not have seen a moose in the park - but we found something much more exciting -
Moose Poop!

We hiked down to the river at mile marker 32.

This is wet glacier silt.  Betsy and Zac found out that is great for sliding on.

After our amazing time in the park, we decided that we had to dip our feet into the refreshing Alaskan water - BRRRRRRRRR!
He looks like he is enjoying it - but two seconds after this picture was taken - he was screaming about how cold the water was.

But for Betsy all those trips to the New Hampshire beaches paid off.  The water felt just right to her!

After a great day in Denali, we were sad to go.  It is onto Fairbanks for us.  We loved taking the train.

Car A is like our second home now!

We also had some amazing food on the train.  And surprisingly we didn't spill anything!
