On our way to Copenhagen, we stopped made a few stops. First stop was Jelling, Denmark. This is a runestone from the 10th century. This stone was carved by the Viking King Harald Bluetooth in memory of his parents, celebrating his conquest of Denmark and Norway, and his conversion of the Danes to Christianity.
A burial mound - probably only 2 maybe 3 people in this mound.
Zac's first thought - 'Awesome sledding hill!'
These are chalk drawings in the church. They look so much better than my sidewalk chalk drawings...
Then, it was on to Fredericia. This is my mom's hometown. It was fun to walk the streets that she walked as a child.
Her first home was in this apartment building.
This is the house she grew up in. It has been renovated a little over the years.
But the clothesline my mom use to swing on was still there.
She biked up and down this hill hundreds of times over the years.
This beach was right down the hill. No wonder my mom loves the sea.
Zac couldn't help himself - he had to get on those rocks...
Walking the streets that Grandma walked. Actually she was in front of the kids, and they were trying to keep up.
Cool fountain - yes that is Zac going through it...
This fountain was so interesting and it was just in the middle of the walking street.
Then it was onto Copenhagen to see Uncle Sven Aage, Aunt Dorte, Joakim and Cecilia. And a big surprise was my Cousin Rebecca and her adorable daughter Anna Sophia joining us for dinner.
Zac has a new fan!
Look how beautiful these ladies are... So happy we got to see them.
We had a fantastic dinner. My aunt is a great cook, and the kids love her because sugar and chocolate are an essential food group to her! Emma went with my aunt to church for a young women's activity. While Max, Cecilia and Joakim played a very loud game of monopoly. What a fun night!
