Do Salt and Slides Have Anything In Common?

Our last full day in Austria has come to an end. We leave for Venice tomorrow morning. We are very sad to leave:( The weather agreed... Pretty gloomy start.

We did make the most of our last day in Salzburg. We went for a tour of a Salt Mine in Hallein.
Doesn't sound so exciting, but it may have been one of the highlights of the trip...

Preparing to go into the mine - such classy uniforms...

Yes, the mine has a chandelier  - my house doesn't have one but the salt mine does...

Crossing over the border into Germany - hope everyone has their passports!

This was the highlight of the tour - there were 2 slides in the mine.  First one was 25 meters and the second one was 45 meters...  Weeeeeee

The tour guide getting to the answering all our questions - darn those homeschoolers!

By the way - now you know the answer to the title...
In an Austrian salt mine, salt and slides are both fun and a great way to spend your day!

We continued our day visiting Mozart's Birthplace and the residence he lived in as a teenager. Frank has a moderate obsession over Mozart!

I think Mozart would be okay with a little ice cream before the tour.

This is Mozart's family tree.  I took this before I was informed I wasn't to take pictures in the museum - oops...

The kids were interested, but as Zac put it "once you hear one Mozart piece you've heard them all".   I think the museum worker who overheard him might have had a heart attack - oops! Please do not send me nasty emails - Zac was just being himself! We don't take much stock in his taste in music anyway - he sings Pokemon songs all the time - did you even know Pokemon had song???

Look it is Mozart's biggest fan waiting to go into his residence...

We also walked did some shopping on Getriedegasse. It is a walking street in Salzburg full of shops and restaurants.

We just loved all the ornate signs - even McDonalds got into the spirit..

The snake over the pharmacy was pretty cool.

One of my personal favorite was this dress shop.

The windows of the stores were equally entertaining.  Zac labeled this one the 'three headless dancers'.  I am sure that is what the designer was going for!

Other interesting sights
Guess these guys don't have to worry about mowing the backyard!

So many clock towers and we never seemed to know what time it is!

The boys with some tasty modern art!
Obviously, relatives of Larry the Cucumber (a little Veggie Tales humor).

Yes, we drove through this tunnel - we had to use our shrink ray to get us through, but we all bounced back to normal size (bummer!)

Came across Masta Max!

Our final dinner in Austria was bratwurst and ice cream. Just relaxing on the street, feeding the birds and watching people.

But in the End Zac took the bull by the horns

And he started heading to Italy - oops he might have gone the wrong way..
