We started today in the right way - going to church. And guess who surprised us - my mom was sitting waiting in the chapel for us! We were all happy to see her.
Going to church has been wonderful. We have loved meeting and learning from the saints in different countries. This Branch in Denmark was so friendly, and their little primary did a great job on all the verses of Follow the Prophet. What a treat to feel the spirit all over the world.
After church, we took a quick drive to the North Sea. The boys braved the ferocious wind to touch the North Sea.
These are the Men at Sea statues. They look out on the North Sea. The year they were installed there was a bus strike in Denmark, so the locals call the statues 'Men waiting for the bus.'
The kids almost blew away, but I had to get the shot!
Frank and Zac 'pulled' themselves to safety... They are such hams...
We played a little fetch with Primo.
An amazing Sunday meal with family - life doesn't get better than this...
We needed to walk off that meal, so we visited Ribe. Ribe is one of Denmark's oldest towns. It is a wonderful small danish town filled with history - our history!
This is Saint Catharinae Church and Monastery. It was founding in the 8th century.
For my New England friends that means it is wicked old!
Down these stairs, you can see one of the jackscrew used to hold the church up many years ago when the church was tilting.
I love this shot looking out to the courtyard. Zac said the courtyard reminded him of Harry Potter. I love when they really get into the history of a place...
We then went to the Ribe Cathedral.
The kids climbed the 247 steps to the top of the tower.
What a view!
In the Cathedral there is a great statue representing St. George and the Dragon - one of our favorite stories.
The doors in this town were amazing. I want this for my front door!
This is the Cathedral's front door.
It has amazing carvings, but the door handle is 'heavenly'.
We walked to meet the beautiful Queen Dagmar. She was a very kind, beautiful and loved queen. Queen Dagmar is said to be one of the most beloved queens ever in Denmark. The Cathedral bells will even play a song called 'Queen Dagmar lies in Ribe sick'.
We then ventured to the water. This bans on the pole shows the various water levels over the years. Frank asked if when the water reached to top ban did it flood all of Denmark???
We decided that this boat was a the result of too much drinking or giving a bunch of 11 year olds paint. Zac did point out that it looked cool and it had a grill! What more could you want in a boat!
While we watched the beautiful Danish swan...
Some of us were checked out if any of our friends had been here earlier!
We ended our day with the three fates - the more knots that they put in your rope the harder your life will be.
Here is to wishing you very few knots in your rope!
