Lost and Found

Our second and last day in Venice we traveled out to the island of Murano.

We went by water bus over to the island of Murano.  Max and Emma learned a valuable lesson - Don't get off the water bus without your parents.  Because your parents might not be getting off at that spot... When we notice they weren't with us, Frank, Zac and I got off at the next stop, and Frank ran back to find the boat jumpers!  This is what he found -

They were milking it a little!

Once we were back together, we got to see this beautiful island.

We were treated to some glassmaking demonstrations by true glass artisans.  This is a skill that can't be taught from a book.  These artisans just learn by watching and trying.  It takes many years to truly become proficient, and I am sure even longer to become a true craftsman.

I couldn't imagine doing this in the true summer heat!
That is one 'hot' job!  (yes I went there:)

The island was full of little shops with beautiful and some humorous glass pieces.  I am happy to say Emma and I scored a few things!

The chandeliers were unreal.  We were astounded that they were made out of glass.

We also discovered a few glass art pieces on display around the island.  These two pieces were huge!  People would just stop and stare at them.  I think most of us just couldn't wrap our heads around that they were made of  GLASS!  You know like the cup you smashed on the floor last week - GLASS.

We had a wonderful day on Murano, but before we left Venice we went back to Piazza San Marco area.  We had to say our goodbyes to Venice with some Gelato!

We loved Italy and wish we could stay longer - but onto more adventure!

Truly a wonderful trip!

  1. Ha! Of all the awesome things that you are doing, it was the eating of Gelato that made Lana exclaim "Wow. They are so lucky!" Seeing the world vicariously through you is a lot of fun...
