Families That Rows Together...

Last night, Max sprained his ankle.  So, we left him at my uncle's and headed to Roskilde Catherdral.

The Roskilde Catherdral is huge.  It is still used for worship services and concerts, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage sight.  We had a fantastic tour guide who really made our visit so interesting. The cathedral has been the main burial site for Danish monarchs since about the 15th century.

These frescos were white washed over, but historians were able to remove the white wash so we can see them today.  See be careful - nothing is ever truly deleted:)  Thank goodness in this case!

These photos are just not as great as seeing them in person.  If you are ever in the area - make a trip to this cathedral!

This is a depiction of Satan in one of the 5 chapels inside the cathedral.

This is the alter at the front of the cathedral.

There is an amazing pipe organ.  Many concerts are performed in the cathedral because the acoustics are so fantastic.

This cathedral is literally filled with dead people - Zac thought that was cool!  This is the coffin of Frederik the 5th.  The sculptures were done by the teacher of Bertel Thorvaldsen.  Up close you can definitely see how this teacher influenced Bertel Thorvaldsen's sculpting style.

This is the tomb of Queen Margrete.

I want this angel trumpeting my arrival into heaven!

There were even tombs under the alter - no this isn't the door for the seven dwarfs!

This was my favorite painting in the chapel of Christian the 4th.  This painting is placed between two large windows - so the light from the windows often makes the painting difficult to see.

We had to prepare for the evening - Viking boat sail.

This boat actually was sailed across the North Sea.

Before our big boat adventure, we got to see my cousin and her adorable daughter.

With her Morfar

Then this motley crew got onto a viking boat for a quick sail...

Whose brilliant idea was this!

Of course as soon as the sail went up - the wind died!

My mom and her sister, Crystal making plans - this could be a mutiny!

Who put him in charge!

We had to have some beautiful damsels on board!

I think she could convince her dad to let her do anything - what an angel!

We got to catch and feel some jelly fish - icky!

Here are the two that saved us and rowed all us home!  Thanks Frank and Phillip!

After our daring viking adventure - my aunt made soup and my favorite danish hot dogs for supper!  It was so fun to be with our Danish family.

Love this shot of Joakim and Emma - is that a smile on her face!

Zac being attacked by a crazy dane!

We also got a some insights to danish slugs from my cousin's son!  It wasn't in english, but he seems to really know his snail stuff..
