June 7th in Konigssee

We drove to a wonderful part of Bavaria called Berchtesgadener Land.  It is only 30 minutes from Salzburg.  This is the area of Germany Frank and I did some fun things 20+ years ago.  We wanted the kids see why we love it so much.

The day started with a magical rainbow appearing in the blue sky.

This is Berchtesgaden.  It seems to have grown in the last 20 years...

Just up the road is Lake Koningssee or the King's Lake.

At Lake Koningssee, Frank finally got his Bratwurst and Emma got a dirndl (a traditional German dress) on sale! She got her dirndl just a few doors down from where I got my dirndl 20 years ago...

We also ran into some of the 'Sound of Music' nuns - now you know what happened to them after the movie...

Because of Zac's ear and Emma's reluctance to heights - Frank and Max took a gondola ride up into the mountains without the rest of us.  They got to see the Alps up close!

Up, up they go...

How about a bike ride down...

Great view of Lake Konigssee

The view made Max pause.  For me this scene could have been Frank 20 years ago.  The memories of the our time in Germany have been flooding back.

SNOW!  We finally found it.  Max - don't eat that snow...

This is Mirror Lake German style (a reference that my dad would agree with).

How could anyone not love this place...
