Creatures from the Blue Lagoon

Today we truly went to a different planet... We ventured to
The
When I asked the boys to describe it - they just couldn't find the words.  It is a man made pool in the middle of a lava field,  but it is really so much more than that... Take a look -

It is right out of a science fiction novel.  The water ranges from 85-104 degrees, and is rich in salt and minerals.  It was like a giant spa treatment with a few hundred friends in the middle of a moon landscape.  That about sums it up.  It was an experience we won't soon forget - and I am pretty sure we each came out of the water with a new super power (to add to our old super powers:)!
**Travel note:  If you get to Iceland or have a few hours layover here - it is not to far from the airport and it is so worth the trip!

We spent the rest of the day with Cousin Kristine, Binni and Markus.  We went to some Sailors Day festivities.  Saw some boats, interesting sea life and tried some local delicacies!  The boys (including Frank) and I tried smoked whale.  It wasn't too bad, but Zac really liked the grilled whale.  Then Max, Zac and Mom tried fermented shark.  Max and I were able to swallow it, but Zac just couldn't.  He did manage to not throw-up!  It was so disgusting - the flavor was like rotten slimy fish but worst... Don't worry after that we had chocolate covered marshmallows -
'one must taste the bad to truly enjoy the good!"
The funniest part of the fermented shark experience is that little Markus tried the shark with us, and he liked it.  That kid will eat anything! Yet -  I do think he enjoyed the chocolate covered marshmallows more!

We ended our day with a visit to Perlan - translated  The Pearl.
This was Emma's favorite stop of the day.

It is four water towers with a dome on top.  In the dome are 2 restaurants and an observation deck.  The view of Reykjavik was amazing.

We ate dinner together looking over the city.  What a fun day.  We are falling in love with Iceland!
And as a side note - my husband is doing an great job driving the tour bus all over and parking it like a pro!
